Michelin Stars and Warm Trattorias: A Winter Dining Guide to Veneto

As winter’s chill sets in, the appeal of hearty meals in cosy, welcoming settings grows irresistible. While Le Calandre in Sarmeola di Rubano shines with its three Michelin stars, Italy brims with exceptional dining experiences, and the Veneto alone boasts 32 Michelin-starred restaurants to explore.

In this guide, we’ve selected our top three Michelin-starred restaurants and three standout trattorias across Veneto that are truly worth dining at. And as a special treat, I’ve included one of my favourite hidden gems in Recoaro Terme—a culinary school where many Michelin-starred chefs trained, offering a budget-friendly way to savour a Michelin-worthy experience and potentially be served by the next big name in gastronomy!

A Hidden Gem: Professional Culinary Institute of Chioggia

Michelin Stars and Warm Trattorias: A Winter Dining Guide to Veneto 17

The Istituto Professionale di Stato per i Servizi Alberghieri e della Ristorazione “Pellegrino Artusi” in Recoaro Terme is a prestigious culinary school named after Pellegrino Artusi (1820–1911), author of La scienza in cucina e l’arte di mangiar bene, the iconic cookbook that unified Italian cuisine.

The institute’s alumni include Michelin-starred chefs like Carlo Cracco (1 star), Giancarlo Perbellini (3 stars), Corrado Fasolato (2 stars), and Lorenzo Cogo, one of Italy’s youngest Michelin-starred chefs.

The school’s didactic restaurant, open to the public on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, offers a three-course meal for just €25. Guests have the chance to be served by students who could be the next award-winning chefs. Reservations are recommended (+39 0445 75111). Check their website for updates.

These restaurants offer an array of experiences, from Michelin-starred elegance to the warmth of intimate trattorias, and even a little-known gem for the budget-savvy gourmand. With options like these, you’ll find that Veneto’s winter dining scene is as rich in atmosphere as it is in flavour—so rest assured, you won’t be heading home hungry!
