Why San Valentine’s day in Verona?
Verona is the ultimate city of love, thanks to none other than William Shakespeare and his Romeo and Juliet. The tragedy tells the story of two young lovers defying their families and society, bound by love even in death. While Juliet herself is a creation of Shakespeare’s imagination, the play became so famous that the city dedicated a small balcony in a historic courtyard to her name.
But the truth is, this story has left such a mark that you can feel it everywhere in Verona. The romance of the city is in its cobbled streets, the grand Arena, and the quiet charm of its old squares. As you walk past stone archways and historic buildings, the blend of history and beauty makes it clear why Verona is the perfect place for San Valentine’s Day celebrations and love stories that have lasted for centuries. Whether it’s a sunset view from Castel San Pietro or a leisurely stroll through the city, Verona truly feels like a place where romance belongs.

Verona in Love: The Event
The Verona in Love event is organized by the City of Verona in collaboration with various local organizations and sponsors. The 2025 edition runs from February 14 to 16, transforming the city into a haven for romance, with two key themes offering unique experiences across different locations.
“Amore al Centro” takes place in Piazza dei Signori, where you’ll find lively markets, live music, and cultural events. One highlight is “Bacio da Cinema”, where couples can recreate some of the most iconic kisses in film history, with the chance to win an exclusive experience on Lake Garda.
On the other hand, “Amore Diffuso” features theatre performances, opera concerts, and dedicated spaces for voluntary associations in historic venues such as the Loggia di Fra’ Giocondo and the Loggia Antica. These spaces become a hub for cultural and community engagement, hosting poetry readings, theatrical performances, and musical showcases.
As part of the event, visitors can also take part in the beloved Letters to Juliet tradition. Since the 1930s, people from around the world have been writing letters addressed to Juliet, Verona, seeking advice on love. This unique practice gave rise to the Juliet Club, where volunteers continue to respond to thousands of letters each year, keeping this extraordinary tradition alive. During San Valentine’s day in Verona, visitors can take part in special poetry and letter-writing activities, embracing the timeless tradition of expressing emotions through words.
For food lovers, the festival offers wine tours celebrating Amarone, the region’s iconic red wine, born in the nearby hills. You can also book an aperitif atop Torre dei Lamberti, taking in breathtaking views of the city as you sip your drink. While in Verona, be sure to try Risotto all’Amarone, a traditional dish that combines the local Amarone red wine with Vialone Nano rice, creating a rich and flavourful experience unique to the region.

Finally, thanks to the “Pay One, Get Two” promo, you can access all the city’s museums and landmarks for half the price, including Torre dei Lamberti and the Funicolare di Castel San Pietro (though it closes at 5:00 PM). My suggestion? Follow the walking path next to the Roman Theatre and hike up on foot 10–15 minutes before sunset. Then, just sit back and enjoy the most spectacular view of Verona.
