5 Mountain Towns in Veneto Where Every Season Brings an Adventure

Planning a mountain escape soon? Have a look at these mountain towns in Veneto to experience scenic views, outdoor adventures, and a taste of local culture all year round.

Veneto is home to some beautiful mountain towns that are well worth a visit if you get the chance! Each season brings something new to experience, from skiing down snowy slopes in the winter to hiking scenic trails and camping trips in the warmer months – all surrounded by fresh mountain air.

If you’re after something more low-key, a peaceful staycation might be just what you need. Picture cosy evenings, hearty meals, and stunning views right outside your window. It’s the perfect way to slow down and recharge.

If any of that sounds like your kind of getaway, here are our top picks for mountain towns in Veneto you won’t want to miss.

Key Takeaways:

  • Veneto is home to several towns situated near the Dolomites.
  • Based on heritage, the most popular among them are Asiago and Pieve di Cadore.
  • Enego is known for its wineries, and Recoaro Terme for its spas.
  • Cortina d’Ampezzo, a mountain town in Veneto, is known for having Michelin-star restaurants and the biggest ski circuit in the world.

Asiago

If you’re a fan of cheese, the name “Asiago” might already ring a bell. This charming town is where the world-famous Asiago cheese originated.

But there’s more to Asiago than it’s culinary fame!

The town is also home to historic landmarks like the Sacrario Militare di Asiago, a breathtaking monument that pays tribute to soldiers from World War I. It’s a moving site that leaves a lasting impression.

Other notable places to see are the Cathedral of Saint Matthew and the Church of Saint Rocco.

When it comes to places to stay, I recommend the Linta Hotel, which offers free breakfast, a spa, and cosy rooms that are well worth the price. You can spend your days hiking in the summer or skiing in the winter, but don’t leave without trying the town’s legendary cheese!

Enego

Located near Asiago at the Asiago Plateau, Enego is another small but lively mountain town that feels more compact and cosy than some of the larger villages. I visited this area during the winter, and I’d say that’s the best time to go. You’ll have a chance to ski, hike, and explore historic landmarks like the Enego Tower, which stands tall in the heart of town.

Unlike the busier towns nearby, Enego feels much quieter, and that peaceful atmosphere is part of its charm. Plus, it’s just a short drive from Asiago, making it an easy trip if you’re already in the area.

There was a limited choice of hotels, so I ended up staying at Hotel Api in Foza — roughly a 10-minute drive from Enego.

Pieve di Cadore

If you love art, history, and nature, you’ll want to add Pieve di Cadore to your list. It’s an easy 45-minute or 1-hour trip from Venice or Enego, respectively, and the first thing to do here is to go hiking from Pozzale to Tai, Nebbiù, and Sottocastello.

As the birthplace of Titian, the famous Italian painter, you can learn about Pieve di Cadore’s artistic heritage by visiting Titian’s house and the Church of Santa Maria Nascente, which showcase the sheer talent this town has to offer.

And when you’re ready for a break, head to Piazza Tiziano, the town’s main square, where you’ll find plenty of cafes, bakeries, and bars to relax and recharge.

Recoaro Terme

One of my most peaceful moments in Veneto was in Recoaro Terme. This town is all about wellness and relaxation, thanks to its famous thermal spas. I spent nearly a full day at the Recoaro Thermal Baths, and it was an experience I won’t forget.

It’s the kind of place where you can truly disconnect and unwind.

That said, there’s no shortage of outdoor activities either. Biking and hiking are an active and growing community, with several long and clean routes, but the wellness aspect is certainly the highlight here.

The hotel options, like Miramonti and Kristal are mostly outside the town, but they’re worth the price.

Cortina d’Ampezzo

Known as the “Queen of the Dolomites,” Cortina d’Ampezzo truly captures the essence of a mountain town. It has designated spots for hiking and road trips in the summer, with a gorgeous backdrop to accompany you.

During winter, Dolomiti Superski resort takes center stage. It’s the largest ski circuit in the world, and it’s well worth a visit if you’re into skiing or snowboarding. Summer offers a different kind of magic, with trails for hiking and road trips that give you stunning views of the mountains.

That said, Cortina d’Ampezzo is pricey. Compared to other towns on this list, hotel rates, dining, and activities are much higher. Places like Hotel Alaska Cortina don’t come cheap — expect to pay around €600 per night. So, if you’re planning a visit here, it’s best to budget accordingly.

Conclusion

I hope this guide gave you some inspiration for exploring the mountain towns of Veneto. Whether you’re a foodie and want to experience Asiago’s authentic cheese or want the luxury of one of the largest ski resorts in Cortina d’Ampezzo, this region offers it all at various budgets.
