Almost nobody outside Liguria has heard of La Spezia, the actual city sitting right next to it, and that’s a little backwards, because La Spezia is where the hospital, the supermarkets, the working port, and the trains that get you to the five villages in the first place all are. La Spezia is a fairly big city, around 92,700 people. It sits roughly an hour south of Genoa and an hour north of Pisa. More and more expats are choosing it as their base, and according to our data, quality of life here is excellent – the score is 94 out of 100, among the highest I’ve come across writing this series.
